Heat pump installation in Exmouth, designed by the specialist who lives with the result
If your boiler is on its way out, or the oil tank in the lane behind town has become a part-time job, this is the switch that settles it. We are the MCS-certified heat pump specialist based on Exeter Road in Exmouth: assessment booked within days, aftercare minutes away, every system designed room by room for your property.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system. Totally recommend Eco Pro Renewables Ltd to anyone who asks

What your Exmouth installation includes
The majority of heat pump problems are design problems. Get the design right and the technology just works. So the design is where we put the effort, and it is what you are really paying for. Every installation includes:
- A full room-by-room heat loss survey of your property, not a guess from the floor area or the postcode.
- A system designed around that survey, sized to heat your home on the coldest day of the year without being oversized and wasteful.
- A clear radiator plan. We tell you exactly which, if any, need upsizing to run well at a lower temperature.
- Supply and installation of the heat pump, a new heat-pump-specific hot water cylinder, and all pipework and controls.
- Commissioning and optimisation, so the system is dialled in and running efficiently before we leave.
- Smart, weather-compensating controls where they add value, so the heat pump adjusts to the weather and your home’s demand.
- A proper handover, so you know how it runs, and aftercare when you need it.
We install underfloor heating too, and if you already have it, even better, it is designed for exactly this kind of lower-temperature system.
An Exmouth heating problem with two faces
Exmouth is not really an oil town.
- From the seafront terraces up through Withycombe Raleigh and across the Brixington estates, most streets have mains gas, and the housing runs from Victorian villas near the front to the detached homes and bungalows built out in the 1960s and 70s.
- What those properties share is age: a generation of gas boilers and direct-electric systems now reaching the end of their working lives, in houses that were never designed around low-temperature heating.
Ten minutes up the road it changes completely.
- Head inland toward Woodbury, or up the estuary through Lympstone, and the gas grid runs out.
- Homes in the lanes behind the town heat with oil or LPG from a tank in the garden, which means winter fills at whatever the market decides, tank levels to watch, and no price cap protecting any of it.
Eco Pro Renewables installs air-to-water heat pumps for both kinds of household, and we do it from inside the town.
- Our base is Firbank House on Exeter Road, so an assessment here is booked within days, not weeks, and aftercare is minutes away rather than a van dispatched from three counties over.
- Every system starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation of your actual property.
No templates, no call centre, no salesman.
Why Exmouth homeowners choose us
Plenty of heat pump installers list Exmouth on a service-area page. Eco Pro is the heat pump company actually based in the town, and that changes what the week feels like and what happens after it.
You deal with James, the owner, from first visit to handover and through the aftercare that follows.
- A heat pump engineer since 2010 with 100+ heat pump installations behind him, he designs and commissions each system, and because the base is on Exeter Road he can be at most Exmouth properties within ten minutes.
- That matters more after the install than before it, when your call gets the engineer who designed your system. More about him on our about page.

James audits other installers for a living.
- He is a freelance NAPIT MCS assessor, so other companies’ heat pump work gets checked against MCS standards by people like him.
- Your Exmouth installation is done by someone who knows exactly what a failed audit looks like, because he writes them.
Room-by-room heat loss design.
- Every radiator, every room, every wall type measured and calculated before a system is specified.
- Oversized heat pumps short-cycle and waste money; undersized ones leave you cold in February. The calculation is what prevents both.
Older homes welcome.
- A Victorian terrace near the seafront and a cob cottage in the lanes toward Woodbury need different answers, and both have them.
- If another installer has told you your property “isn’t suitable”, that is usually the start of the conversation, not the end of it.
The grant handled and deducted upfront.
- As an MCS-certified installer we apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf and take it straight off the invoice. You never pay it out and claim it back.
- And if something needs putting right afterwards, we are ten minutes away, not gone. Just up the estuary we now cover heat pump installation in Topsham as well.

Grants and costs for Exmouth homes
Eligibility depends on your property and circumstances, so not every home qualifies. We check this at the free assessment and tell you straight.
Check if your home qualifiesOn running costs, we will be honest where others are not.
If someone promises your bills will be cut in half, ask them for the calculation. We show ours.
- Against oil on a standard electricity tariff, savings are usually modest.
- The real gains are different ones: your heating cost stops swinging with the oil market, a heat-pump electricity tariff can cut the unit rate of the power you use, and the tank, the deliveries and the January panic about running dry all go away.
Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently gives eligible homeowner-occupiers in England and Wales £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump replacing a fossil fuel or direct-electric system.
- For most homes inside Exmouth on mains gas, £7,500 is the figure.
- Off-gas-grid properties heated by oil or LPG can now qualify for £9,000 instead, on applications made up to 31 March 2027.
- For the oil and LPG properties out toward Woodbury, Lympstone and the surrounding lanes, that extra £1,500 is already available, and we get the paperwork in well ahead of the March 2027 deadline.
- Installation is also charged at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, and as your MCS installer we handle the whole application and deduct the grant from your invoice upfront.
- Since April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer strictly required to apply, which has unblocked a lot of older properties.
The kit we fit, and why
We draw the design from your survey, room by room.
For the typical off-grid home the measured heat loss gives the size of unit, and the room figures show which radiators can stay as they are.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
We install Ideal often, but we are not tied to one manufacturer, and we select the heat pump and cylinder to suit each home.
That freedom is deliberate, and it is how we differ from big firms stuck with one or two makes.
The 4 to 10 kW band suits most Devon homes, Ideal’s UK factory keeps parts close to hand, and the pre-plumbed cylinder that usually goes in arrives with the filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat stat in place. The result is a cleaner, quicker install with fewer things to go wrong later. We have fitted systems like this many times, with consistent results.

Installation and commissioning
A clean MCS install, usually about a week start to finish, one or two jobs at a time, with the system properly commissioned and dialled in.
Handover and aftercare
We show you how it runs, and we are here afterwards, with servicing when it is due.
“Their design was really detailed, explained clearly and the heat pump works perfectly. Would definitely recommend and already booked in for a few of our other properties.”

Exmouth
A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.
West Hill · Ottery St Mary
The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon, including Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. Across the water, heat pump installation in Starcross is covered from the same base. Out along the B3178 toward Budleigh Salterton, our East Budleigh page covers the cottages on Hayes Lane that still run on oil.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
Common questions
Often, yes. Most of Exmouth has gas, and if your boiler is on its way out you are facing a four-figure replacement decision either way. Replacing it with a heat pump qualifies for the £7,500 grant and 0% VAT, and the free assessment will tell you honestly whether the numbers work for your house before you spend anything.
Book my free home assessmentThis is the work we specialise in. Victorian terraces near the seafront, 1960s bungalows in Brixington, stone and cob further out: the room-by-room heat loss survey tells us what each room genuinely needs, and the system is sized to that. Some radiators may need upsizing to run at lower flow temperatures. The survey tells the truth before you commit.
Book my free home assessmentIt depends on the size of the system your heat loss calculation calls for, what your radiators and cylinder need, and the grant you qualify for. Rather than quote a misleading “from” price, we give every Exmouth enquiry a free on-site estimate, then a fixed quote within 24 hours of the survey. The grant comes off the invoice before you pay.
Book my free home assessmentThe £9,000 rate is specifically for off-gas-grid homes heated by oil or LPG, and it is available now on applications made up to 31 March 2027. Inside Exmouth town it mostly will not apply, because the streets have mains gas; the standard £7,500 does. In the lanes and villages just outside, where oil tanks are normal, the £9,000 is exactly what we would plan your application around. That includes oil-heated properties in Lympstone, Exton, Woodbury and Budleigh Salterton.
Book my free home assessmentAbout a week at a typical Exmouth property: we start on a Monday and you have heating and hot water commissioned by Thursday or Friday. Water is off for short periods, not days. Because we run one or two jobs at a time, the crew that starts your job finishes it.
Book my free home assessmentTerraced and semi-detached plots in town need more thought than a rural garden, and it is part of the design, not an afterthought. MCS rules require a sound assessment for the unit’s position, and the units we fit are quiet machines. We will show you the placement options at your Exmouth assessment, and can arrange for you to hear one running nearby.
Book my free home assessmentYes. The home visit is free with no obligation. The detailed heat loss survey is £250 plus VAT, and that fee is wiped from the final bill if you go ahead with the install. You only pay for the survey if you decide not to proceed.
