Heat Pump Installation Chard: High Ground, A Wide Oil Hinterland
Chard sits over the Somerset border on some of the county’s highest ground, where many outlying villages run on oil rather than mains gas. Heat pump installation Chard means a room-by-room design for whichever fuel you burn, grant deducted before you’re invoiced.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system.

What your Chard installation includes
An underperforming heat pump nearly always started life as a rushed specification. Every Chard installation we quote covers:
- The heat loss survey and design. Wall construction, glazing and room use, recorded one at a time, give a kilowatt figure unique to your address.
- The heat pump and a matched cylinder. A heat pump suited to the property sits outside, paired with a heat-pump-specific cylinder sized to the household’s bathrooms.
- Radiator changes where the numbers ask for them. Scheduled in before anything gets bought.
- The pipework, electrics and the outdoor base. Confirmed at the survey visit against the sound calculation agreed at the assessment.
- Commissioning and fine-tuning. We agree flow temperature and hot water timing with you, not factory defaults.
- The grant application. We file it and net it off before your invoice.
- Handover and aftercare. A plain-English walkthrough of the controls, then the same number to ring when your first service comes round.
Underfloor heating fits the same scope, well suited to these systems’ low flow temperatures.
Heat pump installation Chard: a lace town on the high ground, oil country around it
Chard is one of Somerset’s highest towns, and the villages ringing it climb higher still toward the Blackdown Hills.
- Many properties on those lanes heat on oil or LPG, same as much of rural Somerset.
We are the MCS-certified air-to-water specialist on Exeter Road, and sizing for a Chard property comes off a room by room heat loss survey, never a guess pinned to elevation or postcode.
A short run over the border, we also cover heat pump installation in Axminster, the nearest Devon market town Chard callers already know.
Why Chard homeowners choose us
Winters get colder as the ground climbs toward the Blackdown lanes above Chard, and whoever you can still call two years after the quote is signed matters more than the cheapest name on it.
The owner runs your job.
- James stays on from first visit to handover, assessing, designing, overseeing the fit and commissioning.
- Aftercare comes to him as well, and he understands your system from the first survey on. For more on him, see the about page.

Your designer inspects everybody else’s work.
- NAPIT uses James as a freelance MCS assessor, checking other installers’ jobs against the standard.
Sizing comes from measurement, not a postcode.
- Every room and wall type recorded before a kilowatt gets specified.
Older and period properties welcome.
- A converted lace-mill cottage behaves nothing like a newer estate house; both designed for what they are.
The grant handled, about a week on site.
- We lodge the Boiler Upgrade Scheme claim and deduct it before invoicing.
- Closer to Exmouth, we also cover heat pump installation in Honiton. Along Silver Street in Ilminster, listed houses pair Ham Hill stone fronts with brick behind, a mix an Ilminster heat pump survey has to account for.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays an eligible owner-occupier toward an air-to-water heat pump, and the figure depends on what heats your Chard property now.
- £7,500 for mains gas.
- £9,000 for homes off the gas grid on oil or LPG, common in the parishes around Chard, on applications lodged by 31 March 2027.
- 0% VAT on qualifying installations through 31 March 2027.
The kit we fit in Chard, and why
Four to ten kilowatts covers most properties in and around the town. Where one needs something else, the heat loss survey shows it.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
Any air source heat pump Chard gets from us is chosen from more than one make to suit the house, then paired with a cylinder that arrives already plumbed, filter and overheat cut-out fitted.

“After comparing several quotes and gathering details I decided to go with Eco Pro after speaking with James and couldn’t be happier. Their design was really detailed, explained clearly and the heat pump works perfectly.”

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.

The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install in Chard and the Somerset villages around it, over the Somerset border, within 45 minutes of our Exmouth base, alongside our Devon coverage including Axminster, Honiton and Exmouth.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
What Chard callers ask before they book
It comes down to the property’s size, radiators and hot water setup: every Chard enquiry starts with a free home assessment, not a price list, and the survey sets the figure.
