Heat pump installation in Budleigh Salterton, designed to heat your home for the next twenty years
Budleigh’s bungalows and older homes are not choosing heating for the next three winters, they are choosing it for the next twenty. We design quiet, properly sized air to water systems room by room, from our base ten minutes down the coast road in Exmouth, MCS certified, grant deducted upfront.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system. Totally recommend Eco Pro Renewables Ltd to anyone who asks

What your Budleigh Salterton installation includes
The majority of heat pump problems are design problems. Get the design right and the technology just works. So the hours go into designing it, and that design is the thing of value you are buying. Every installation includes:
- A complete heat loss survey, taken room by room, rather than a figure assumed from floor area or postcode.
- A system designed off those numbers, sized to carry the house through the coldest day of the year while staying clear of wasteful oversizing.
- A clear radiator plan. You hear exactly which ones, if any, need to be larger to work at a lower flow temperature.
- Everything supplied and installed: the heat pump, a purpose-built heat pump cylinder, and all the pipework and controls.
- Commissioning and optimisation carried out on the day, so the system leaves our hands running efficiently.
- Weather-compensating smart controls wherever they add something, so the heat pump reacts to the forecast and to the demand in the house.
- A handover that leaves you confident with the controls, and aftercare whenever it is wanted.
Underfloor heating is within our work too, and existing pipework is a bonus, since it already suits low-temperature operation.
The last heating decision you should have to make
No town in England has a higher share of residents aged 65 and over than Budleigh Salterton: 45.5% at the 2021 census.
- That shows in the housing.
- The roads behind Fore Street are lined with bungalows and single-storey homes, most built between the 1960s and 1990s, and a fair number of them are still running on an ageing oil or LPG boiler because mains gas never reached every corner of EX9.
If that sounds like your house, the decision in front of you is one you would rather make once, properly, and never think about again.
- You are not choosing heating for the next three winters.
- You are choosing it for the next twenty.
That is exactly the job we do.
- Eco Pro Renewables provides air source heat pump installation across East Devon from our base in Exmouth, ten minutes down the coast road from Budleigh.
- Eco Pro is an MCS-certified installation company run by James Stalker, a heat pump engineer since 2010 with more than 100 heat pump installations behind him. He answers the phone himself, carries out the home assessment himself, and designs every system himself.
There is no sales team, because there is nothing to be sold. Either the numbers work for your house or they don’t, and the survey tells you which.
Why Budleigh Salterton homeowners choose us
Two things matter more in Budleigh Salterton than almost anywhere else we work. The first is getting the sizing right, so the house is evenly warm without you touching the controls every day. The second is noise: gardens here are often modest and neighbours are close, and nobody wants to be the house with the humming box. Here is how we handle both, and the rest of a five-figure decision.
The owner does your job.
- James, whose background is on our about page, assesses your home and designs your system, then commissions it and hands it over.
- Aftercare questions come back to the engineer who designed it, ten minutes away in Exmouth rather than three counties off.

He audits other installers’ work.
He audits other installers’ work.
- James is a freelance NAPIT MCS assessor, so other heat pump companies get inspected against the standard he checks them against.
- When he designs your system, he is designing to the same standard he holds everyone else to.
Room-by-room heat loss design.
- Before we recommend anything, we calculate the heat loss of every room in your house.
- The heat pump, the cylinder, and any radiator changes are sized from those numbers, not from a postcode template. An oversized unit short-cycles and wastes money; a properly sized one just quietly works.
Older homes welcome.
- Budleigh has period properties near the seafront and along the older streets as well as its post-war bungalows. If you have been told your home “isn’t suitable”, we would like to see the calculation behind that claim.
- Usually there isn’t one.
The grant handled and deducted upfront.
- As an MCS installer we apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf and take it off your quote before you pay a penny. You never pay the grant amount and claim it back.
- And because we are local, aftercare means James, ten minutes away, not a ticket queue. We also cover Seaton, further east along the coast.

Grants and costs for Budleigh Salterton homes
Eligibility is not automatic: the scheme applies to homeowner-occupiers replacing fossil fuel or direct electric heating, and we confirm your eligibility as part of the survey rather than promising it on a web page. If you qualify, we handle the application and deduct the full amount from your quote upfront.
Check if your home qualifiesA straight word on running costs, because you will read nonsense elsewhere.
Against oil on a standard electricity tariff, the saving is usually modest.
- What a heat pump genuinely gives you is a predictable bill instead of an oil price that jumps around, access to dedicated heat pump tariffs that improve the numbers considerably, and the end of tank checks, delivery lorries, and the January fear of running dry.
- We will show you honest figures for your house at the survey, not a fantasy percentage.
Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently offers eligible homeowner-occupiers in England and Wales £7,500 towards an air source heat pump.
- For off-gas-grid homes replacing oil or LPG heating, the grant rises to £9,000 today, and the higher amount runs on applications made up to 31 March 2027.
- Many Budleigh Salterton properties on oil or LPG will fall into that higher band.
- Two useful recent changes. Since April 2026 a valid EPC is no longer strictly required to apply, which removes a hurdle for some older properties. And heat pump installation carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
The kit we fit, and why
The design is worked out from what the survey measures.
On a typical off-grid house the unit is sized to the heat loss, and each room is checked to see if its radiator is big enough.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
Your heat pump and cylinder are chosen once we know your property, from whichever manufacturer suits it.
Ideal units go in regularly on James’s jobs, and each house is matched by its heat loss, cupboard space and hot water demand, a freedom big installers wedded to a brand or two lack.
The 4 to 10 kW spread suits most homes in Devon. The pre-plumbed cylinder we generally put in arrives complete with filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat stat, giving a tidier, quicker installation. It has served us well many times now, and the results hold steady.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.

The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon, including Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. Otterton is two miles upriver, cob and thatch on Fore Street, and not one of the certificates we read there had mains gas. Hayes Lane and the steep High Street a mile inland are what heat pump installation in East Budleigh covers, oil and LPG out along the lane.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
Common questions
Quieter than most people expect. Modern units run at around the volume of a domestic fridge from a few metres away, and every Budleigh Salterton installation includes an MCS sound calculation that accounts for the distance to your neighbours’ windows before we fix the unit’s position. In smaller coastal gardens we take extra care over placement. You are welcome to hear a running unit before you decide.
Book my free home assessmentVery well, and Budleigh Salterton’s bungalows are some of the best candidates we see. Single-storey homes typically have modest heat loss that sits comfortably within the 4 to 10 kW band the units we fit cover, pipe runs are short, and there is usually a sensible spot for the cylinder in an airing cupboard, utility room or garage. A heat pump for a bungalow is usually a simpler job than for a three-storey townhouse.
Book my free home assessmentIt depends on the size of the system your house needs, whether any radiators need upsizing, and the cylinder arrangement, which is why we won’t quote a number before seeing the property. What we will do is give you a free estimate at your Budleigh Salterton home on the first visit, then a fixed quote within 24 hours of the survey, with any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant already deducted. No estimates that mysteriously grow later.
Book my free home assessmentIf you own and live in your home and are replacing oil or LPG heating in an off-gas-grid property, you can now qualify for £9,000 rather than the standard £7,500, on applications made up to 31 March 2027. Plenty of oil-heated homes in and around Budleigh Salterton should qualify, but eligibility depends on your circumstances and we confirm it properly at survey stage rather than assuming. We look at homes in Exmouth, Colaton Raleigh and Woodbury on the same basis.
Book my free home assessmentAbout a week. We normally start on a Monday and commission on the Thursday or Friday, and we only run one or two jobs at a time. Water is off for short periods rather than days, and we walk you through the controls before we leave your Budleigh home, set up so you shouldn’t need to fiddle with them afterwards.
Book my free home assessmentAge alone rules nothing out, and being told “it can’t be done” usually means nobody did the arithmetic. The room-by-room heat loss survey tells us exactly what your property needs, whether that is a period home near Budleigh’s pebble beach or a 1970s bungalow towards the Otter estuary end of town. Unit siting takes exposure into account. If the numbers genuinely don’t work, James will tell you that too.
Book my free home assessmentYes. The home visit is free with no obligation. The detailed heat loss survey is £250 plus VAT, and that money comes straight off the invoice if you proceed with the install. You carry the survey cost only in the event you decide against going ahead.
