Heat pump installation Seaton: bungalows, roof area and salt air
A four-bed house doesn’t get smaller once you stand the walls up, and more roof and wall means more heat escaping. Heat pump installation in Seaton starts by measuring exactly that, with any grant taken off before you pay.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system. Totally recommend Eco Pro Renewables Ltd to anyone who asks

What your Seaton installation includes
A quote for a Seaton property covers the following, itemised here so nothing turns up later as an extra.
- The room-by-room heat loss survey and the design it produces. Every room measured, the total set against a coastal Devon winter, and the unit chosen from that figure. This is the part most people are actually buying, because a system that is wrong at the design stage stays wrong afterwards however good the kit is.
- The heat pump and a pre-plumbed hot water cylinder. Both chosen for the property, supplied and fitted, sited where the free home assessment agreed, not wherever there happens to be room on the day.
- Radiator changes, but only where the arithmetic names them. The schedule reaches you emitter by emitter before anything is ordered, and anything absent from that list stays exactly where it is.
- Pipework and electrics. Flow and return pipework, including the horizontal runs a single-storey layout asks for, insulated wherever it crosses a roof space, a garage or anywhere else unheated, plus the isolator, supply and controls.
- Commissioning and optimisation on site. Flow temperature set to the design figure, the hot water cycle timed, the controls configured, then a handover in person before we drive off.
- The grant application. We lodge the Boiler Upgrade Scheme claim under our MCS certification and take it off your invoice. The money never passes through your account and there is nothing for you to reclaim.
- Handover and aftercare. From the same company, along the A3052, not a national booking line.
Underfloor heating sits inside the same scope, whether a Seaton property already runs it or wants it added. It suits the low flow temperatures these systems run at particularly well.
Air source heat pump installation Seaton: a town built mostly on one floor
Seaton stands at the mouth of the River Axe, facing Lyme Bay, with the Jurassic Coast running west past Seaton Hole.
- The 2021 census counted 7,688 people in the parish with a median age of 61, among the oldest of any town in England, and it shows from the pavement: climb Harepath Road, Scalwell Lane or Seaton Down Road and it is street after street of single storey houses, built for people who had finished with stairs.
- Ask a national firm to price one and the figure comes off floor area, the measurement that misleads here.
Three things shift once the whole house sits on one floor, and none show up on a templated quote.
- Floor area stops being a useful shortcut: a single storey plan presents more roof and a longer run of outside wall for the same square metres, so the figure gets measured rather than scaled off a plan, though it still tends to land inside the 4 to 10 kW band. Pipework runs a different route too, and a heat pump cylinder is a different shape from the oil-fed one it replaces, so its position, whether that is the existing cupboard, a utility or the garage, gets agreed at the free home assessment rather than assumed.
- Our air source heat pump installation service is built on exactly that difference.
James Stalker owns the company, works from Exeter Road in Exmouth and holds a freelance NAPIT MCS assessor role alongside 100-plus installations.
- A few hundred metres from an open beach, anything left outdoors lives a harder life: salt carried in off Lyme Bay on a southwesterly helps decide which aspect the outdoor unit faces.
- Not all of EX12 is on the gas main either.
Follow the tramway up the Axe valley past the Seaton Wetlands to Colyford, or cross to Axmouth, and oil tanks reappear in gardens, and if yours is one, swapping an oil boiler for a heat pump puts you in the higher grant bracket.
Why Seaton homeowners choose us
A heat pump installer Seaton residents can still reach two winters later beats the lowest number on a quote. The heat pump company Seaton homeowners ring back is usually the one that answered first time.
The owner runs your job.
- James takes the call, does the free home assessment and the design, and oversees the fitting to commissioning and handover.
- The aftercare is his as well, so nobody on commission sits between you and the man who did the arithmetic and designed it. You will find his background on our about page.

He audits other installers.
- NAPIT contracts James as a freelance MCS assessor, judging rival companies’ work against the standard.
- Yours is designed to pass the inspection he would run.
Heat loss measured room by room, not inferred from a floor plan.
- On a single storey property that decides the kilowatt figure, and a unit sized off the wrong one short-cycles or runs short by February.
Older and period properties welcome.
- Stone and rendered cottages sit near the harbour alongside the post-war streets, and an unsuitable verdict from another firm usually just means they declined the job.
The grant applied for and deducted up front, roughly a week on site.

- Our MCS certification lets us lodge the Boiler Upgrade Scheme paperwork and take the money off the invoice, so it never touches your account.
- Seaton sits towards the eastern end of our patch along the A3052, and along the coast the nearest page to this one is Beer, with Sidmouth a little further along. Inland we also cover Honiton, to the north-west, and Newton Poppleford.

The grant, the VAT deadline and what Seaton homeowners actually pay
One point trips people up. The scheme itself runs on well past March 2027.
Check if your home qualifiesOn running costs you get the honest version, not a percentage.
We will not put a saving figure in front of you, because it depends on your tariff, your fabric and what is being replaced.
- What changes for a Seaton household on oil is the arrangement itself: no gauge to read and no delivery to book.
Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
Under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, an eligible owner-occupier in England or Wales replacing a fossil-fuel system can claim £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump.
- Not every Seaton property qualifies, and we settle it at the free home assessment before any price is discussed.
- Where a home is off the gas grid and coming off oil or LPG, the grant becomes £9,000 on any application lodged by 31 March 2027; the page dealing with the off grid oil and LPG route has the conditions.
- What actually stops on 31 March 2027 is the £9,000 rate for off-grid oil and LPG homes, alongside 0% VAT on qualifying installations.
- On a Seaton installation the VAT rate is 0%, and it stays there until 31 March 2027.
The kit we fit, and why
For the typical off-grid home the measured heat loss gives the size of unit, and the room figures show which radiators can stay as they are.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
For a Seaton property we choose the heat pump and the cylinder once the survey is done, since no single manufacturer has a claim on us, and that choice is settled in advance rather than discovered halfway through the job.
The units we fit here mostly run 4 to 10 kW, which is where a properly measured house or bungalow around here usually lands once the roof and the perimeter are counted rather than guessed. We fit Ideal often and know its units thoroughly; Ideal build in the UK and stock parts accordingly, which matters more this close to an open coast, since kit facing salt-laden air off Lyme Bay gets looked at more often across its life and a part you can have by Tuesday beats one you cannot source.
The pre-plumbed cylinder we usually fit turns up with the filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat stat already fitted, which saves a day of first fix wherever a single-storey plan puts it, be that a store, a utility or the garage. Big firms tied to one or two makes fit the same box everywhere, while we settle the kit and the detail before the van is loaded, which is the difference between the week we quoted and the fortnight nobody wanted. The kit follows the survey, not the brochure. Where a Seaton property genuinely calls for something else, the survey says so and the design follows the property, not the catalogue.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.

The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon, including Seaton, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. Along the coast, our Lyme Regis heat pump installation page covers the Dorset side of the border. Past Beer the coast drops into the next valley, where air source heat pumps in Branscombe go into thatch and listed stone.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
Heat pump installation Seaton: common questions
Not necessarily bigger, but the sum is different, because geometry changes. Spread the same floor area over one level and you add roof and outside wall, which is where heat goes. Many Seaton bungalows also sit exposed to Lyme Bay, so the figure gets measured, never scaled.
Book my free home assessmentIt follows the unit size, the cylinder and how many radiators change, so a published price misleads. You get a fixed estimate on the day of the free home assessment, and your heat loss survey hardens it into a firm Seaton quote.
Book my free home assessmentYes, on that condition and that deadline. No gas main, oil or LPG coming out, and the house owned and lived in by you: that combination can qualify for £9,000, on any application lodged by 31 March 2027. Other eligible Seaton properties can qualify for £7,500. Neither is automatic, so we settle it free. The same holds for oil-heated homes in Beer, Colyton and Axminster.
Book my free home assessmentIt is one of the things James weighs at the free home assessment, along with airflow clearance and the pipe run to the cylinder. The sound calculation follows for that spot, and this close to the beach in Seaton, servicing counts too.
Book my free home assessmentSome, rarely all. Lower flow temperatures mean a few emitters must be physically larger to give out what they did before. The schedule comes from your heat loss survey, so nothing on a Seaton job surprises you.
