Heat Pump Installation Newton Abbot: On The Grid, Off It Nearby
Newton Abbot mostly runs on mains gas, but the villages that call it their market town burn oil and LPG. Heat pump installation Newton Abbot means a room-by-room survey either way, the grant taken off upfront, a design built for your house, not your postcode.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system.

What your Newton Abbot installation includes
A heat pump that disappoints its owner is nearly always one specified in a hurry. Every Newton Abbot installation we quote covers:
- The heat loss survey and design. Wall construction, glazing and room use, recorded room by room into a kilowatt figure that belongs to your address alone.
- The heat pump and a matched cylinder. A heat pump outside matched to the heat loss, a heat-pump-specific cylinder inside, sized to how the household uses hot water.
- Radiator changes where the numbers ask for them. A solid older terrace can mean two or three larger emitters; a newer estate house, often none.
- Pipework and electrics. Unit position fixed by the MCS sound calculation.
- Commissioning and optimisation. Flow temperature set against the design figure.
- The grant application. Filing the claim is our job, netted off before an invoice.
- Handover and aftercare. A run-through of the controls, then the number to ring at the first service.
Underfloor heating sits inside the same scope, happy at these systems’ low flow temperatures.
Air source heat pump installation Newton Abbot: a town on the grid, a constituency that mostly isn’t
Newton Abbot itself runs mostly on mains gas.
- Its wider constituency does not: 16.8% off the gas grid, unusually high for a town this size, mostly the villages and farms that still call it their market town.
That split matters for design, not just geography: a newer estate house and an older property near the centre lose heat at completely different rates.
- Heat pump installation Newton Abbot has to answer for both, not one average house.
We’re the MCS-certified air-to-water specialist on Exeter Road in Exmouth, and James has been on heat pumps since 2010 with past 100 installations behind him.

Why Newton Abbot homeowners choose us
Who still picks up the phone two winters after the install? That question matters more in Newton Abbot than the lowest number on the quote, mains gas through Highweek or LPG out near Hele Park alike.
The owner runs your job.
- James assesses and designs, keeps an eye on the fitting, commissions and hands over, then stays your aftercare contact.
- In Newton Abbot that is one person to call, and he understands your system. His history is on our about page.

Your designer inspects everybody else’s work, contracted by NAPIT as a freelance MCS assessor judging other installers.
- Others had written off a Newton Abbot period home before we re-piped its whole heating system for low-temperature running.
We size from measurement, not a postcode.
- Every room recorded before a kilowatt is specified, Highweek cottage or Hele Park new-build alike.
Older and period properties welcome.
- A railway-era terrace and a 1600s house on Wolborough Street both get designed for what they are.
We lodge the grant application and subtract it upfront, the job about a week on site, aftercare close afterward.
We lodge the grant application and subtract it upfront, the job about a week on site, aftercare close afterward.
- Heat pump installation Kenton runs the same process. Ipplepen, on the A381 toward Totnes, still has thatch and slate on most roofs in its conservation area, so we site an Ipplepen heat pump with those rules in mind.

The kit we fit in Newton Abbot, and why
For the typical off-grid home the measured heat loss gives the size of unit, and the room figures show which radiators can stay as they are.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
Big firms stick to one or two makes, but James picks the heat pump each house needs, often an Ideal, with a cylinder that usually turns up already plumbed, filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat cut-out fitted.
Ideal builds its units in the UK, so spares move fast, and that cylinder saves a day on a Wolborough Street house whose airing cupboard predates it. Need something different? The heat loss survey shows it.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.

The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across Devon, including Newton Abbot, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. Over the hill on Tor Bay the housing changes again, and heat pump installation in Torquay usually means a tall villa losing heat up the stairwell. South on the A381 the road reaches the Dart, and heat pumps for Totnes homes work around much older stone than the estates here.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
