Heat Pump Installation Hemyock: A Village Built on Dairy, Heated on Oil
No mains gas has ever reached Hemyock, so an oil tank beside the farmhouse is as ordinary as the herd next to it. Heat pump installation Hemyock starts by measuring what each property needs, room by room, not by assumption.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system.

What your Hemyock installation includes
In a village raised on the milk trade, the outbuildings tell you as much as the house does. A Hemyock job’s cost is mostly the thinking done before a single component turns up. Every Hemyock installation we quote covers:
- The heat loss survey and design. Wall construction, glazing and floor build-up, recorded room by room, farmhouse or not.
- The heat pump and a matched cylinder. Outside, a heat pump matched to the heat loss, and inside, a cylinder sized to whatever cupboard a Hemyock property already has.
- Radiator changes only where the numbers call for them. A stone farmhouse wall can mean two or three upgraded emitters; a newer infill near the old creamery site, often none.
- Pipework and electrics. Cable runs from an outbuilding or a farmhouse wall get agreed at survey stage, position checked against the sound calculation.
- Commissioning. Tested live before we leave the farm, controls talked through in plain terms rather than left on a factory setting.
- The grant paperwork. We lodge the claim for your Hemyock property and take it off the invoice, not something you pay out and claim back later.
- A walk-through at handover, then the same number to ring when service is due.
Underfloor heating fits inside the same scope, and works well at the low flow temperatures a heat pump runs at, farmhouse flag floor or newer extension alike.
Heat pump installation Hemyock: dairy country that never had a gas main
No mains gas has ever reached Hemyock or its neighbour Clayhidon, just over the Somerset line.
- Oil and LPG heat most of this stretch of the Blackdown Hills, the same dairy farms that have run tanks for generations.
None of that changes how we design a system.
- From Exeter Road in Exmouth, Eco Pro is the area’s MCS-certified specialist, with James Stalker on heat pumps since 2010, past 100 jobs behind him and the same rigour applied to every air source heat pump installation we run.
Sizing comes from a room-by-room heat loss survey, not a guess, the method we use around seven miles north at heat pump installation in Cullompton.
Why Hemyock homeowners choose us
A season or two after the last oil delivery, the phone number that still gets answered matters more than the cheapest figure on a Hemyock quote. Dairy farms round the village test that promise as hard as any cottage does.
The owner runs your job.
- James is with you from the survey to commissioning and handover, then for aftercare.
- Later calls go to the man who drew the design. His background is on our about page.

- On a West Hill job three companies refused to move the cylinder into the garage; we redesigned the pipework and did it.
Sizing comes from measurement, not a postcode, farmhouse or newer build.
- Every room and wall type gets recorded before a kilowatt is specified.
Older and period properties welcome.
- Cob and solid stone hold heat differently, and a Hemyock farmhouse gets designed for what it is.
The grant deducted upfront.
- We file the application and knock it off your invoice, and aftercare travels too, out to Honiton.

Grants and costs for Hemyock homes
We apply and deduct it from your quote, so you never pay the grant and reclaim it. Eligibility depends on the property and your circumstances, so not every Hemyock home qualifies.
Check if your home qualifiesWe’re straight about running costs in Hemyock: against cheap oil, the saving is usually modest.
What changes coming off oil is the routine: no deliveries, no tank to watch.

Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays towards an air-to-water heat pump.
- £7,500 applies to homes not on oil or LPG, mains gas included.
- Off the gas grid, true of much of Hemyock, that means £9,000 on oil or LPG, see our off-grid oil and LPG grant, applications by 31 March 2027.
- 0% VAT on qualifying installations to 31 March 2027.
The kit we fit in Hemyock, and why
For the typical off-grid home the measured heat loss gives the size of unit, and the room figures show which radiators can stay as they are.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
Eco Pro isn’t tied to one manufacturer, so James picks the heat pump each Hemyock property needs, often an Ideal, and usually a pre-plumbed cylinder, arriving with its filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat cut-out already fitted.
A farmhouse airing cupboard built for an immersion tank rarely suits a heat pump cylinder, so a factory-finished one saves the best part of a day. Four to ten kilowatts covers most Blackdown plateau homes, farmhouse or newer build alike.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.
West Hill · Ottery St Mary
The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon and Mid Devon, including Hemyock, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. Six roads meet at Churchinford, a Somerset village on the Devon border in the Blackdown Hills, and we run Churchinford heat pump installs the same way as here.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
What Hemyock callers ask before they book
An air source heat pump installation Hemyock quote depends on the property, farmhouse or newer build, and how it currently makes hot water. We give a fixed estimate at the free home assessment.
Book my free home assessmentYes, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. A Hemyock farmhouse off the gas grid on oil or LPG can qualify for £9,000, provided the application goes in on or before 31 March 2027. Anywhere else on mains gas would qualify for £7,500 instead.
Book my free home assessmentUsually yes, if it’s sized from measured heat loss, not guessed at. Cob and solid stone behave differently from a cavity wall, so the survey matters more in Hemyock, not less.
Book my free home assessmentAbout a week for a typical Hemyock job, start to finish, whether it’s a farmhouse or a newer build. We usually start on a Monday and have the system commissioned and handed over by the end of the week.
Book my free home assessmentYes, the first visit to your Hemyock property is completely free. Only the heat loss survey that follows carries a charge, £250 plus VAT, and that fee is waived in full once you go ahead with a Hemyock install.
Book my free home assessmentOften a few. A heat pump’s gentler flow temperature can mean two or three radiators grow in a Hemyock farmhouse, rarely the whole house. The survey tells you which.
