Heat pump installation Feniton: off oil, designed room by room
A station on the London main line, and heating that still arrives by tanker. Heat pump installation Feniton comes down to measuring the rooms you actually have, sizing the unit to that number, and taking any grant off the price before you are invoiced.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system.

What heat pump installation Feniton includes, item by item
Design decides whether the rest of it behaves, and design is what a thin quote leaves out. Nothing below is an extra bolted on later. It is what the price covers on a Feniton property, and the list does not shorten because the house is newer.
- The heat loss survey and the design it produces. Wall construction, glazing, orientation and exposure recorded room by room, not inferred from a floor plan or a postcode. Out of that comes the unit size, matched to the coldest morning the building will meet, not a convenient round number.
- The heat pump and a matched cylinder. An outdoor unit chosen for this house, a heat-pump-specific cylinder inside, sized for the household rather than the closest number on a spec sheet. On the closes built out from the station the airing cupboard was often sized around a slim vented cylinder, and older stock towards the church frequently has no cupboard worth the name, so we settle where the new one goes, utility room or garage if that is the answer, before anything is ordered.
- A radiator schedule naming which of yours stay and which have to grow. You see that list before anybody orders anything.
- Pipework, wiring and the electrics. The heat pump and cylinder are tied together with pipework, wiring and controls, and thick walls and solid partitions in the older stock rule out routes a modern house would allow, so the route is settled before work starts. The electrical work is roughly a day of it, done by the electricians who do ours.
- Weather compensating controls and full commissioning. Output follows the outside temperature rather than a setting chosen one afternoon in October, and the system is optimised on site so it performs as the design predicted instead of sitting on whatever the factory shipped.
- The Boiler Upgrade Scheme application. Lodged at our end, with the award subtracted from the invoice where the property can qualify.
- A proper handover. A run through the controls in plain English, then servicing when it falls due.
We design and install underfloor heating too. A Feniton property that already has some downstairs starts ahead, because low flow temperatures are exactly the conditions it was laid for.
Air source heat pump installation Feniton: a train to Waterloo, no gas main
Feniton has a station on the line between Exeter and London Waterloo, so the village is better connected than places several times its size, but there is no gas main beneath the streets.
- Around St Andrew’s sits the old churchtown; New Feniton, the estate that grew up beside the station from the late 1960s, took the population from 320 to 1,069 inside a decade, with The Burlands, Acland Park and Winchester Park following.
- A cottage by the church and a bungalow on a 1970s close share nothing architecturally. They order from the same oil lorry, and swapping that boiler for a heat pump is most of what we get asked to do.
Roughly sixty properties in the centre of New Feniton flooded in October 2008 and again in November 2012, and a flood alleviation scheme was later built to manage water from above.
- Drainage is not our trade, but on ground with that history we agree the outdoor unit’s position, its height and the pipework route with you at the free home assessment, rather than default to the nearest wall.
- Three miles south the same oil-and-cavity mix repeats around Ottery St Mary.
We run Eco Pro Renewables from Exeter Road in Exmouth.
- Air source is all we do, and only air-to-water: it feeds radiators and a cylinder, never air conditioning, and James Stalker does every free home assessment himself.

Why Feniton homeowners choose us
A heat pump installer Feniton homeowners can get on the phone at half past four on a Tuesday beats a logo on a box. Here is what separates us on a Feniton job.
Owner led, start to finish.
- James Stalker runs the assessment, produces the design and oversees the team that fits it. Commissioning and handover are his, and he stays on for aftercare, so questions go to the engineer who knows the system.

Your designer inspects everybody else.
- NAPIT sends James out as a freelance MCS assessor to rule on whether other companies’ heat pump installations met the standard.
- Yours is built to survive the version of him holding a clipboard.
Sizing comes off measurement, never floor area.
- Rooms, walls and windows are recorded before a kilowatt is chosen.
- Oversize a unit and it short cycles; undersize it and a bungalow spends February behind.
Older and period properties welcome.
- Stone, cob, rubble under render, thatch on the oldest.
- A verdict of unsuitable usually means the design work looked like bother.
Grant lodged and deducted before invoicing, about a week on site.
- Where a property can qualify, we file the Boiler Upgrade Scheme paperwork and strip the money out first, so it never touches your account.
- Two installations at a time is our ceiling, and the drive from Exmouth is short: Feniton sits well inside the areas we cover.
What homeowners say on Google
What it costs in Feniton, and what the grant takes off first
Our MCS certification is what permits the application, and we remove the award from your invoice at the start, so the money never reaches your account.
Check if your home qualifiesOn running costs, put honestly: against oil the real change is a list of things that stop.
Ordering by the load, reading a gauge before a cold snap, wondering what the next fill costs.
- You get that comparison at the survey, not a saving figure we cannot defend.
Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
Eligible properties not on oil or LPG can qualify for £7,500.
- Nobody qualifies automatically: it depends on the property and your circumstances, and we establish which applies to your Feniton home at the free assessment before any figure is written.
- A Feniton property with no mains gas connection, heated by oil or LPG today, can qualify for the upper Boiler Upgrade Scheme rate of £9,000, provided its application reaches the scheme by 31 March 2027.
- Conditions are set out where we explain the higher off-grid rate.
- VAT on qualifying work runs at 0% until 31 March 2027. Past that date the scheme carries on; the deadline bites on one thing only, after 31 March 2027 the £9,000 band shuts to off-grid properties leaving oil or LPG behind.
The heat pump, the pre-plumbed cylinder, and how we choose them for Feniton
The house sets the kit, not the reverse.
Your measured figures pick the make and the size, inside the 4 to 10 kW band or outside it, and we say why.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
We are not tied to one manufacturer, so a Feniton property gets the heat pump and cylinder that suit its heat loss, its airing cupboard and its hot water demand, where the big firms are fixed on one or two makes.
The 4 to 10 kW output band covers what measured heat loss produces across this village’s stock, from three and four bedroom houses on the closes off the station approach to the smaller rendered places nearer St Andrew’s.
We fit Ideal often and know the range well, and Ideal build their units in the UK, so parts move quickly when something needs replacing rather than leaving you on plug-in heaters over a January weekend. The cylinder we usually fit has its filter, diverter valve, cylinder stat and overheat stat fitted before it leaves the works, which saves hours inside a house where there is often nowhere to lay tools out, and keeps every installation to the same standard regardless of which team turns up.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.
West Hill · Ottery St Mary
The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon, including Feniton, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. The lanes north of the station run up to Colestocks and the village beyond, where heat pumps for Payhembury homes are sized one address at a time.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
Heat pump installation Feniton: common questions
It follows the property’s size, the radiators already there and how hot water is made now, which is why the free home assessment comes before any figure. On a Feniton job the written price is the price, minus any grant you can qualify for.
Book my free home assessmentUsually, though the answer comes from measuring, not from glancing at a front elevation. Estates around the station are conventional cavity work; older houses on the lanes out of Feniton are stone or cob, releasing heat slowly. Both work once design follows survey.
Book my free home assessmentWhere you own and live in it, there is no mains gas connection, and oil or LPG heats it today, £9,000 is the rate it can qualify for, provided the application is lodged by 31 March 2027. Where a Feniton property is eligible on a different basis, it can qualify for £7,500. Nothing is automatic, so we check first.
Book my free home assessmentAbout a week. Monday starts are normal, commissioning lands Thursday or Friday, and the wiring is done inside a day. Two jobs at once is our limit, so whoever begins a Feniton installation hands it over too. Four miles east we work the same way around Honiton.
Book my free home assessmentPossibly one or two. Heat pumps push cooler water round a system than an oil boiler does, so an emitter may need enlarging to deliver the same warmth. The heat loss survey settles which, and any change shows on the fixed Feniton quote first.
Book my free home assessmentIt will, where it is sized for the coldest morning of the year rather than an average one. Establishing that is what the room-by-room heat loss survey exists for. Every Feniton property is designed on its own measured heat loss, never a floor-area rule of thumb.
