Heat pump installation Cranbrook, including when our answer is no
Cranbrook is the one place in East Devon where heat pump installation Cranbrook homeowners ask about is often the wrong recommendation. We would sooner say so on the doorstep than sell a system nobody needs.
James and the team provided a first rate end to end service, our old oil boiler failed on Good Friday and within 3/4 weeks we were up and running with a new energy efficient air source heating system. Totally recommend Eco Pro Renewables Ltd to anyone who asks

What your Cranbrook installation includes
One price, written down, and this is what sits inside it. The list does not change with the postcode, though on a property out on the parish edge two lines of it do more work than the rest.
- The heat loss survey and the design it produces. Every measurement is taken inside the property itself, so the kilowatt figure belongs to that house and no other.
- The heat pump and a matched cylinder. A heat pump sized to what the survey found, often an Ideal, paired with a pre-plumbed hot water cylinder. The town’s houses were drawn with a cupboard ready for it; a farm cottage on the Whimple side was not, so we walk the property and settle the spot before anything is ordered.
- Radiators, but only the ones the survey argues for. Rooms with enough surface already keep what they have, and you see the list before we buy a thing.
- Pipework and electrical work. This is the line that swells on solid stone and cob. Routes are planned first, and we will gladly take a longer run behind a cupboard rather than cut across a wall that was old before the parish existed.
- Commissioning and tuning. Then a handover that leaves you working the controls in January without ringing anybody.
- The grant application. Ours to complete and ours to deduct, where the property qualifies.
- Servicing afterwards. On a system we know, because we drew it.
Underfloor heating sits inside the same scope, where a property has it or wants it. Low water temperatures are its natural habitat.
Heat pump installation Cranbrook: piped town, oil-fired parish
Cranbrook was begun on farmland, first occupied in 2012, and arrived with the heating already decided.
- A district heat network serves the whole town: heat and hot water travel underground from an energy centre at Skypark, so what hangs on the wall is a heat interface unit, not a boiler.
- Air source heat pump installation Cranbrook properties on that network need is, in most cases, none at all.
Live on the network, in Younghayes or anywhere else inside the built town, and we will not talk you out of a working heat interface unit, the expansion areas of Bluehayes, Treasbeare, Grange and Cobdens included as they connect.
- The parish itself only dates from 1 April 2015, cut from land that had been Broadclyst, and along the Rockbeare, Whimple and Clyst Honiton lanes sit farmhouses and cottages two centuries older than the masterplan, no mains gas, warmed from a tank behind a hedge.
- What changes once that oil goes is on our page about oil boiler replacement in Devon.
Where we are useful is the older stock the network never reached: houses along the Rockbeare road, farms and cottages on the Whimple and Clyst Honiton side, anything that stood here before the diggers arrived.
- We are Eco Pro Renewables, MCS-certified and based on Exeter Road in Exmouth, air to water only, never air to air.
- James Stalker has been on heat pumps since 2010, over a hundred installations behind him.

He inspects other companies for a living.
- NAPIT contracts James as a freelance MCS assessor, so other firms’ heat pump work gets marked against the standard by people like him.
- Yours is drawn to survive that inspection.
Sizing comes from measurement, not floor area.
- Every wall and window recorded, then the kilowatts follow.
- Oversize a unit and it short cycles and burns money; undersize it and a stone farmhouse never warms up.
Older and period properties are welcome.
- Solid walls, cob, extensions nobody ever drew.
- A verdict of unsuitable usually just means the design looked like hard going.
The grant handled, about a week on site.
The grant handled, about a week on site.
- Where a property is eligible, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme forms are ours to fill in and the award leaves the invoice before it reaches you.
- Exmouth to this parish is a short run, so a service call afterwards is a morning, not a date weeks out, and the parish sits squarely inside the areas we cover.

Holding MCS certification makes the application ours, and the award comes off your invoice at the start rather than being refunded later.
Check if your home qualifiesOn running costs, honestly.
Against oil this is less a dramatic cut in the bill than a list of things that stop: deliveries to book, a gauge to check in January, exposure to the next price swing.
- We show you the comparison rather than promise a figure we cannot stand behind.
Grant figures correct as of August 2026. Eligibility criteria apply and are confirmed at your free home assessment.
-
Eligible properties not on oil or LPG can qualify for £7,500.
- Qualifying is not automatic and turns on the property and your circumstances, and for a Cranbrook home the district network makes that question sharper, so we answer it honestly at the free assessment.
- A property off the mains gas grid, heated by oil or LPG today, can reach £9,000, on an application made no later than 31 March 2027.
- The conditions are set out on our off-grid oil and LPG grant page.
- VAT on a qualifying installation sits at 0% until 31 March 2027. Note what the date attaches to: the scheme itself continues, and the part that closes is the £9,000 band for off-grid properties running oil or LPG.
The kit we fit, and why
For the typical off-grid home the measured heat loss gives the size of unit, and the room figures show which radiators can stay as they are.
We choose the cylinder for your home, as we do the heat pump, and it usually arrives pre-plumbed with its valves and stats fitted.
We fit weather-compensating controls where they add value, and set them up at commissioning.
In the built town the wall box is a heat interface unit, the plant that made your heat sitting somewhere else entirely.
Out on the lanes nothing arrives by pipe, so whatever warms the house has to be kit we are willing to stand behind for years. We are not tied to one manufacturer, so James picks the heat pump for each house, and we often fit Ideal’s 4 to 10 kW range with a pre-plumbed cylinder: Ideal builds in the UK, so a part wanted in a cold snap is a courier job rather than a wait on a shipment from abroad, and the cylinder arrives with its overheat stat, cylinder stat, diverter valve and filter already fitted, cutting the hours of plumbing that would otherwise happen in your airing cupboard.
Cottages and farmhouses on the parish edge, measured properly, tend to land inside that output band. We are not paid to shift a particular box. Where a property measures outside that band, or the layout argues for a different answer, we say so and design accordingly.

A 1930s six-bedroom home with 34 windows
The owners doubted a heat pump could heat an older, larger property. A detailed design running at a low 47 degrees, with seven radiators upgraded and the rest kept, proved it could, comfortably.
West Hill · Ottery St Mary
The job three installers said could not be done
The owners wanted their hot water cylinder relocated to the garage. Three previous companies refused. We redesigned the pipework and did it, on a 311m² home with uninsulated floors.
Newton Abbot
A period home others had written off
We redesigned and re-piped the entire heating system for low-temperature running, and added radiators to rooms that never had them. “Too old” is usually a design problem, not a dead end.
We install across East Devon, including Cranbrook, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford, West Hill and Honiton. A short run north, heat pump installation in Bradninch is on the same patch.
Street, Somerset: three installers, three different answers. We designed it correctly.
Before calling us, this homeowner had already had two national installers and another company out, and been handed completely conflicting advice, one proposing an oversized 16kW system, another saying the property was not suitable for a heat pump at all. Our room-by-room heat loss survey showed the home was suitable, but nowhere near the 16kW that had been quoted. We sized it correctly, upgraded only the radiators that genuinely needed it, and fitted an Ideal Logic Air matched to the actual heat loss rather than the quote sheet.
Heat pump installation Cranbrook: common questions
Usually not. The built town takes heating and hot water from the network, so a Cranbrook house on it has no boiler to replace and little to gain. We say so at the free home assessment rather than quote for work nobody needs.
Book my free home assessmentThere is no list price. Property size, radiator condition and the way hot water is made all move the figure. Your heat loss survey produces the number, and in Cranbrook as anywhere, the written price is the price.
Book my free home assessmentPotentially, yes. Three things have to hold at once: you own the property, it sits off the mains gas grid, and oil or LPG heats it today. Where they all do, the £9,000 band can apply, provided the application is lodged by 31 March 2027. Eligible on other grounds, the figure is £7,500. Which bracket a Cranbrook property falls in is confirmed at the free home assessment, ahead of any quote.
Book my free home assessmentYes, where the design is done properly. A farmhouse on the parish edge loses heat in a way nothing inside Cranbrook does, so sizing comes off measurements taken in every room, never off floor area.
Book my free home assessmentYes. Most of the heat pump work in this parish sits on those lanes rather than inside Cranbrook itself: the farms and older houses out at Bluehayes, Treasbeare and along the old roads. For homes closer to the city, our Exeter heat pump installation page may suit better.
